Opening Information
On September 21, 2004, the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian will open its new museum on the last available space on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The new museum will be NMAI's centerpiece venue for ceremonies, performances, and educational programs, as well as a primary exhibition space for Indian arts, history, and material culture.
To share this special occasion with the public, the National Museum of the American Indian has planned grand opening festivities that include many special events and programs to be held throughout the museum's opening week.
Become a part of history!
Events will feature a Native Nations Procession, Opening Ceremony, and a six-day festival. They anticipate thousands of supporters from around the world will welcome and honor the arrival of the Museum.
